Passage: The Looming Ice Age

In the scientific community, there’s a growing consensus about the inevitable arrival of a new ice age. Many scientists believe that the earth’s orbit and its tilt are primarily responsible for the periods of climate change that result in ice ages. It is speculated that these changes have cycles that last around 100,000 years, with ice ages occurring roughly every 40,000 years. The last ice age ended approximately 12,000 years ago, so by these calculations, we may be due for the next one relatively soon.

However, while the mechanics of these cycles are widely agreed upon, the exact timing remains unknown. A considerable number of experts warn that the cumulative impact of human activities on climate could significantly alter or even disrupt these natural cycles. Hence, instead of simply preparing for the next ice age, our focus should primarily be on mitigating the effects of global warming and adopting sustainable practices to preserve our planet.
